ABOUT THE OWNER
My name is Oscar Zuniga Jr., and I've always been driven by a deep passion for art. As a young kid, I found myself captivated by the vibrant street art that adorned public walls, each piece telling its own unique story. Despite the initial setbacks, like the daunting prices at the print shop when I tried to bring my own designs to life in middle school, my love for art never wavered. The love for art did not disappear there. Even in high school, as I navigated through the hallways, I carried a secret companion - a drawing book hidden away, filled with sketches that nobody else knew about.
After graduation, uncertainty of what I wanted to do as a career grew at large. I wandered through life, unsure of my path until I crossed paths with an artist who reignited the flames of ambition within me. A visit to the Academy of Art in San Francisco in the winter of 2017 brought clarity, especially when I stumbled upon a screen printing station. The memory of that print shop from my past resurfaced, and I couldn't shake the thought.
That very night, I made a bold decision on what my I would be doing the next morning. Armed with a handful of resumes printed at Staples, I embarked on a journey across Gilroy, Morgan Hill, and San Jose in search of an opportunity to learn the trade. And fate smiled upon me when I found myself at the doorstep of the closest print shop to Morgan Hill, just as they were in need of someone to fill a new printing position.
January 1st, 2018, marked the beginning of a new chapter in my life. With determination pulsing through my veins, I dove headfirst into learning the ropes of operating a print shop. For two months, I absorbed every detail, from cleaning to counting, folding to boxing, until finally, I touched the printing machine itself - and that's when I fell in love.
With unwavering resolve, I dedicated myself to mastering the craft, and by the end of 2019, I had saved enough to invest in my own equipment. Setting up shop in the garage, I continued to learn and grow, printing for friends and family while juggling a new higher-paying job to support my dream.
As I gazed into the possibility of expanding into a warehouse in 2020, fate intervened once more with the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet, in the midst of chaos, opportunity blossomed. I transformed a humble backyard shed into my own sanctuary, where I could nurture my passion without the weight of overhead costs.
And in 2021, I proudly launched my print shop to the public, slowly but surely building a clientele while balancing the demands of a 9-5 job. Though life threw its curveballs at me, which had me temporarily close the shop from the end of 2022 to middle of 2023, I refused to falter. And now, here we stand at the dawn of 2024, as I proudly unveil my very own storefront in my hometown - a testament to the power of determination and the unwavering support of those who believed in me.
This is my story so far, a tale of resilience, ambition, and the unyielding pursuit of a dream. And as I turn the page to chapter four, I know that there are many more chapters yet to be written. To all who have helped and supported me along the way, I offer my deepest gratitude - for without you, none of this would be possible. And to those who never lost faith in me, thank you from the bottom of my heart. - O.Z
